What is visa validation?

What Does Visa Validity Mean? The term “visa validity” refers to the state of a visa being considered “valid”. This means that the visa can be used.
When a visa is granted, it is valid until a certain date. During this period of validity, it can be used to enter the country that issued it.

Upon your arrival in France, you must validate your long-stay visa valid as a residence permit (VLS-TS, visa long séjour valant titre de séjour). You have three months to take the necessary steps.

APS – Temporary Resident Permit

At the end of your studies and after obtaining a degree of French higher education, you can request a Temporary Resident Permit to look for work or start a company.

The Temporary Resident Permit, or APS (for “Autorisation Provisioire de Séjour”), allows foreign students to remain in France for one year after the end of their studies. During this period, they may look for a job (without restriction) or prepare for the creation of a company in a field corresponding to their training.

Until a work contract has been signed, for a fixed period of time (CDD) or indefinite (CDI), foreign graduates with an APS are authorised to work under the same conditions as if they were students, meaning to a maximum of 964 hours per year, or approximately 20 hours per week.

The Temporary Resident Permit is accessible to foreign students who:

  • have a Licence Professionelle (vocational degree);
  • have a Master’s-level degree or equivalent such as an Engineering degree, a degree from an institute of political studies (IEP), a higher accounting and management degree, a veterinary degree, etc;
  • have a specialist Master’s;
  • have a Master’s of Science (MSc) certified by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles;
  • wish to start their own company.

To obtain this Visa You must send your request for a Temporary Resident Permit to the Prefecture.

À la fin de vos études et après l’obtention d’un diplôme de l’enseignement supérieur français, vous pouvez faire une demande d’autorisation provisoire de séjour pour chercher un travail ou créer votre entreprise.

L’autorisation provisoire de séjour, ou APS, permet aux étudiants étrangers de rester en France pendant un an après la fin de leurs études. Pendant cette période, ils peuvent chercher un poste salarié sans que la situation de l’emploi en France ne leur soit opposable ou préparer la création d’une entreprise dans un domaine qui correspond à leur formation.

Pour obtenir cette Visa, Il faut vous présenter à la préfecture de votre lieu de résidence 15 jours avant l’expiration de votre titre de séjour avec les documents suivants (originaux et photocopies) :
lettre de votre établissement indiquant la date de votre soutenance,
passeport,
titre de séjour,
justificatif de domicile de moins de 3 mois.
